How to Apply for BEE Registration for Computers in India?

The Energy Conservation Act, 1992 gave birth to the BEE or the “Bureau of Energy Efficiency”. The main objective of BEE is to ensure that the electrical appliances in India comply with the optimum standards of energy efficiency and are economical. Henceforth, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency brought forward the star labelling scheme in order to record and regulate the usage of energy by the electrical appliances. Based on this scheme, the electrical appliances are rated on their energy usage and how effectively it reduces the expenses.

Voluntary Registrations and Mandatory Registration under BEE

Some electrical goods must be registered by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency in order to be freely traded on the Indian market. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency also suggests that some electrical items be registered voluntarily in order to guarantee that they adhere to strict guidelines for energy efficiency.

The products under voluntary Bureau of Energy Efficiency registrations include computers, deep freezers, solid state inverters, ceiling fans, washing machines, solar energy water heaters, Liquified petroleum gas stoves, generators running on diesel, microwave ovens, etc.

The products under mandatory Bureau of Energy Efficiency registrations include frost free refrigerators, room air conditioners, LED Lamps, Colour television, Direct cool refrigeraters, distribution transformer, Tube fluorescent and Electrical geysers.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency Registration for Computers

Computer comes under voluntary BEE registration, and Schedule 14 outlines the procedures to be followed. Computers placed on desktops or other similar storage and server devices are not included in the BEE registration for computers, which includes registration for both notebook and laptop computers. Computer manufacturers can produce, sell, distribute, export, or import their products without acquiring a BEE registration because it is a voluntary process.

Computer manufacturers must follow certain rules in order to register their products under BEE. Foreign producers are obliged to appoint an authorised Indian representative, or AIR, who must be a representative of their company who lives and works in India. The selection of an authorised signatory to manage the procedures of BEE Registration for computers must be made by both Indian and foreign computer manufacturers.

How to Obtain BEE Registration for Computers?

The applicant must follow specific procedures, which include registering online, filling out applications and papers, and providing hardcopies of those documents and applications to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency office. The processes listed below must be followed by computer manufacturers who want BEE registration for their products:

  • Online Registration Process for a Computer Manufacturer
  • The first step in obtaining a BEE registration for PCs is to create an online account for the manufacturer's business on the BEE website. The registration application and all required paperwork must be submitted online through the BEE portal, and the original hard copies of the paperwork must be mailed to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

    In order to register for a manufacturing business that is an MSME, the applicant must also provide Rupees 25000/- in addition to the application and the required documentation. The applicant must provide Rupees 100,000 if registration is being requested for a manufacturing company that is a large manufacturer.

    The Bureau for BEE Registration for Computers must receive a number of relevant documents in order to register computers.
  • Certification of ISO 9001:2015
  • Approval letter designating the appointed signatory
  • Documents proving the identity of the signatory
  • Sample label that would be applied to the product
  • Certificate of incorporation or partnership deed
  • All necessary information on authorised dealer's Test results in accordance with BEE

    The BEE registration for computers is valid for three years from the day it was obtained by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. If the computer still conforms with the current BEE rules and recommendations after these three years, the BEE registration may be renewed after the necessary renewal cost has been paid.
